You Actually Vote Every Single Day of Your Life

November 5, 2020

Now that Election Day has passed, we need to talk about the big “V” word.

Leading up to the election, you see it everywhere:

  • “Go VOTE!”
  • “Make sure you register to VOTE!”
  • “To make your voice heard, you must go out and VOTE!”

Voting is well and good. But the problem with the concept of voting is that you only really hear about it once every four years around election time. Outside of that time period, the enthusiasm for voting isn’t ever as high like it is at election time.

Yes, I’m aware there are smaller elections happening all the time that require voting at the local level. I’m talking about the Big Vote, the national election that calls on the entire country to vote for the next President (or the leader of your country if you live outside the United States).

Now that the presidential election had ended, the voting machines have been packed up. The long lines are gone. The volunteers are wrapping up their duties. The “I Voted” stickers are no more.

All of these activities that we associate with voting can lead you to believe that voting is something that happens once every four years.

Don’t make this mistake. It isn’t true.

You may not go somewhere to literally fill out a ballot, but the truth is that you actually vote every single day of your life.

The small actions you take each and every day are your votes for the future you want to see for yourself, your loved ones, and your community.

Here’s a few examples:

  • You vote with where you choose to direct your attention.
  • You vote with how you choose to spend your time.
  • You vote when you decide to uphold one of your personal boundaries.
  • You vote when you commit to a healthier lifestyle.

The best part about this kind of voting is that you are not casting a vote for another fallible human who, should they win, you must sit and wait for them to build the future you hope they’ll build. That’s assuming they actually keep the promises they made during their campaign.

Rather, your daily voting actions are completely under your control. That makes them, in a way, immensely more powerful than the single, quadrennial vote you make on Election Day.

A common thing you hear from people in non-swing states is that they sometimes feel their vote is “wasted” because of the nature of the Electoral College. While I don’t believe your vote is “wasted” I do understand the frustration. So take heart in knowing that it’s impossible to waste the daily votes (actions) that you can decide to cast.

No Electoral College or bureaucratic election system can take that away from you. Every single thing you choose to do in a day will have a return, either positive or negative, depending on the vote you made (the action you took). Sometimes, that return won’t be seen for quite some time (just like the effects of electing a new President).

One of the most common things I hear after an election is, “Ugh, another four years of this? Hopefully we can get something better in the next election four years from now.”

This is a defeatist thing to say.

Don’t wait four years. Start now. Utilize your daily voting power beginning today to build a better life and better community around you.

If you’re reading this site, you’ve likely taken your personal power back from God, or are in the process of doing so. It is possible to also take your personal power back from a politician.

God made promises he failed to keep. God committed atrocities that he refused to take responsibility for. God’s own book is full of mistakes and contradictions. Yet despite all this, God still claims to be the solution humanity needs. And people believe him.

God sounds very similar to many of the politicians we have today—even the ones that eventually become the President of the United States.

You no longer rely on God as the foundation for your life. You can go one step further and not rely on any one politician to improve and manage your life as well.

The way you do that is to vote every single day of your life. Commit your actions and decisions to improving your life, the lives of your loved ones, and your community. You don’t need God or a politician to do that. You already have all the power you need within you to do that yourself.

Don’t wait. Get started today.

Happy voting.
